Low impact (ie: as small as possible) files for benchmarking output of web-to-email services.

Test Page 1

• Document type is XHTML 1.1
• Character set is ISO-8859-1
• Has an embedded style sheet: puts a grey border around each section below
• Has an external style sheet (40 b): makes the section border red
• Has an inline image (2 kb)
• Has hypertext links
• Tests unencoded diacritics, diacritics as character entity references, non-Latin diacritics as numeric references
• Tests non-Latin language characters coded as numeric references
• Tests right-to-left languages

• Similar to test page 1, but character set is UTF-8

Test Page 2

• Document type is marked up as HTML 4.0 Transitional
• Character set is ISO-8859-1
• Has an embedded style sheet: puts a grey border around each section below
• Has an external style sheet (40 b): makes the border red
• Has a hypertext link
• Tests use of special characters that are invalid (non-SGML) but often used and generally supported by GUI browsers
• Tests valid representation of the same special characters

• Similar to test page 2, but character set is UTF-8

Test Page 3

We would be very surprised to find a web-to-email server which incorporates working Javascript in its output.

• Has embedded javascript: alert on load, and alert on button click
• Has external javascript (227 b): build email address, and change style on mouse over

• Similar to test page 3, but character set is UTF-8.

Test Page 4

Content negotiation: if a request for this page returns a 404 (not found) status code, the web-to-email server does not accept compressed HTML. If the output is garbled, it accepts compressed HTML, but cannot handle it.

• Page has been compressed in gzip format to 734 bytes
• Tests whether the web-to-email user agent can handle gzip correctly

Test Page 5

This is a different kind of compression technique, and is much more common. The test page is created dynamically by a PHP script, and compressed on the fly using the zlib library.

• Character set is ISO-8859-1
• Page is compressed on the fly
• Tests whether the web-to-email user agent can handle dynamically compressed HTML

Russian 8-bit characters.

• Character set is KOI8-R
• Has some Russian words -- which we hope will remain Russian
